Viva L'Italia
(Roberto Rossellini 1961)

Released to mark Italy's centennial in 1961, this rarely-seen historical drama focuses on Giuseppe Garibaldi's role in the process of Risorgimento (Italian unification). 'Of all my films' Rossellini once said, 'I'm proudest of Viva L'Italia. I consider it important as a work of research, the most carefully done of all my films.'
The screening will be introduced by Dr. Pasquale Iannone (University of Edinburgh).
